Rob Liefeld Says Lady Deadpool is Based on Blake Lively

Warning: minor spoilers for “Deadpool and Wolverine” are discussed.

On August 5th, a post on X (formally Twitter) began to go viral claiming that Rob Liefeld, creator of Marvel Comics character Deadpool, based the character of Lady Deadpool on actress Blake Lively. A funny twist of fate considering Lively’s husband Ryan Reynolds plays the Merc With a Mouth in the film adaptations.

And Lively just played Lady Deadpool in “Deadpool and Wolverine.”

Well, turns out the source for this is a social media post made by Liefeld on March 9th. In it, he explains how he and his wife are huge “Gossip Girls” fans, a show Lively starred on. He brought her look to Marvel Comics, and the rest is history.

Now, a direct quote from the creator should be pretty cut and dry. However, “If ever we are blessed with Lady Deadpool on screen I’m pretty certain Ms. Lively will have some say in the casting” casts some doubt. Considering by the time this was posted he would have known that Lively was in the role. So this could just be a jokey easter egg post for fans, or the truth, or possibly both.

It also seems that Liefeld is aware of this beginning to pick up traction since he has reposted some things about it. But never with any comments confirming or denying the original post.

So we are going to go with the post is genuine and just has his signature splash of messing with fans. If we end up with eggs on our faces, so be it.

“Deadpool and Wolverine” is currently in theaters nationwide. You can check out the trailer below:
