Back in 2019, Monty Python’s titular animator Terry Gilliam announced that he was in talks with Apple TV+ to revive his 1981 cult classic “Time Bandits” into a series. The news came as a surprise and a thrill to many fans of the original film. As time went on, Taika Waititi gave Gilliam a hand with directing the first episode, which served as a pilot to test the waters of whether or not the series would be greenlit.
Things appear to have gone smoothly because the anticipated series finally has a trailer!

The series will debut Kal-El Tuck to a much larger audience, putting him center stage as enthusiastic history buff and middle-schooler Kevin. Starring alongside him is Lisa Kudrow as Penelope, Captain of the Time Bandits. Rune Temte, Roger Jean Nsengiyumva, Charlyne Yi, and Tadhg Murphy make up the rest of the try-hard pilferers. Waititi won’t just be behind the scenes, either. But will also appear as the Supreme Being who observes the antics of this ragtag group with measured concern. Jemaine Clement enters as our primary antagonist listed only as Pure Evil, for now. Clement also helped pen the script for the pilot.

As this is a revival, we can’t imagine the plot will be that far removed from the original film. But we’ll keep our spoilers to ourselves until the series releases on July 24th.
