A 4th of July parade in Sunland-Tujunga, California didn’t go as planned, when Danny Trejo (“Machete”) ended up in a fistfight during the event. What was the cause of the scuffle? He was pelted with a water balloon.
What Happened?
During the parade, he was riding shotgun in a convertible decked out with his restaurant, Trejo’s Tacos logo. However, what was supposed to be a fun day of celebrating independence turned sour when someone decided to hit the actor with a water balloon.
A video taken at the event shows Trejo being hit and then exiting the car. When he finds the person who threw the balloon he throws a punch. The alleged assailant returns his blow, knocking him to the ground. But he wastes no time getting back up and even grabs a kid’s metal folding chair with a frog (possibly a bear) on it. But before the green chair can come into play several more people join in the brawl.
The crowd is eventually able to separate Trejo, and whoever threw the water balloon. Only for another to be thrown, hitting him in the head.
Trejo’s Response
The police were called to the scene and were able to break up the incident with no arrests being made. When reached for comment Trejo told TMZ that the people who threw the balloons were “cowards.” He clarifies that people were saying the balloons were filled with acid, explaining his violent initial response. Nevertheless, he also expressed remorse for his role in the fight.
The fistfight was another negative event in an already bad week for Trejo. He announced on June 30th that his beloved chihuahua, Dixie, had passed away. While this in no way excuses his behavior, the loss of a pet is a huge emotional strain on anyone.
So, take this as a reminder to always be kind and not pelt random people with water balloons. You have no idea what they are going through or how hard they may be able to hit.
