The very first thing we have to ask out loud is- “BUT WHAT ABOUT BLADE, HUH??”
It’s true- we’ve been waiting for positive news for YEARS about Oscar winner Mahershala Ali‘s daywalker film. It was originally announced during San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) 2019, and we still haven’t gotten it yet. Starts and stops are not uncommon for big flicks, but Marvel Studios hasn’t really had a project like this one just not happen. Sure, some get reskinned or shuffled off to Disney+, but this was going to be a BIG film.
Just recently there were reports of yet another “directional change,” and a replacement of yet another screenwriter. It’s like no one can crack the story of this fan-favorite character for the modern audience.
Okay, fine, back to dinosaur news…
Ali is apparently in talks to join the big ol “Jurassic World” reboot taking shape at Universal Studios. Gareth Edwards (“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” “The Creator“) will direct, taking over from David Leitch (“The Fall Guy“). Scarlett Johansson has been reported as starring, alongside Rupert Friend. But nothing really concrete yet for additional casting.
David Koepp is penning the script, which is exciting for many reasons. Most notably because he wrote the first two “Jurassic Park” films. So. He knows a thing or two about nature finding a way. Early reports indicated this would be a “reboot,” and a “complete” reboot at that.
We’ll let you know what we hear about this and other news.
But seriously Kevin Feige– where’s our “Blade” movie?!
