Fans of “Ghost in the Shell” are about to get pretty excited as a new anime series of the beloved Cyberpunk franchise has been announced. The original story, written and illustrated by Masamune Shirow, was first serialized in 1989 under the subtitle of “The Ghost in the Shell,” and later published as its own manga volumes by Kodansha. It’s growing popularity can be contributed to the animation studio Production I.G. which produced several anime adaptations of the story.

Bandai Namco Filmworks has announced a new “The Ghost in the Shell” anime series. This fresh installment is currently being prepared for release in 2026. The production duties are bestowed upon Science SARU who are already working on the project, presently titled Kōkaku Kidōtai, an alternative name for The Ghost in the Shell. Notably, the series’ production committee comprises of members from Bandai Namco Filmworks, Kodansha, Science SARU, and Production I.G (who produced previous incarnations of the story).
Prior to the TV series debut, Bandai Namco Filmworks will have an exhibition in spring 2025 for the show.
