The “Jurassic Park” franchise has had some huge names in Hollywood come and go through its gates over the last three decades. That roster of names expanded as the films expanded to “Jurassic World,” and ultimately mixed the old and the new casts together. We’re a couple of years removed from the most recent entry, “Jurassic World: Dominion,” and the franchise is back again with another film, another director, and another cast.

Gareth Edwards (“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” “The Creator“) is set to direct what is being called a ‘reboot’ of “Jurassic World.” Scarlett Johansson has been reported as starring. She’ll be joined by a “friend” from the “Star Wars” universe, Rupert Friend. The former “Homeland” actor played the Grand Inquisitor in the Disney+ series, “Obi-Wan Kenobi” but will be playing a yet unnamed role in the newest dinosaur adventure tale. Jonathan Bailey (“Bridgerton“) will also star.

The script will be written by David Koepp. Koepp also has the distinction of writing the scripts for the first two films in the original series, based off the novels by Michael Crichton. We also know the movie is coming a bit sooner than you might expect, with a release scheduled for July 2nd of 2025.
It makes sense why Universal would want to pump this movie out so quickly. “Jurassic Park” is a massive franchise, and the film and production industries are hurting. An established property like this one seems like it would be a sure-fire hit. Even “Jurassic World: Dominion” grossed over a billion at the box office despite poor critical reviews. Bringing back Koepp might help improve the general quality but we’ll have to see what the actual story details turn out to be and how much of a soft or hard reboot the film is.
There’s reason to have hopes for this film given the talent behind and in front of the camera. We look forward to providing more updates as we learn about them, human or dinosaur-related.
You can catch the original “Jurassic Park” and “Jurassic World” films on Peacock, Hulu, and MAX, respectively.
