Earlier this month, Marvel Comics launched a new Dr. Doom one-shot “Doom,” marking the “Fantastic Four” supervillain’s first solo book since 2000. Writer Jonathan Hickman (“Ultimate Spider-Man”) and writer/illustrator/penciller Sanford Greene (“Bitter Root”) decided to use the first page to pay tribute to the late rapper MF DOOM.
“Doom”
The tribute is a drawing of the Marvel Universe’s cosmic landscape. It’s overlayed with the text “Living on borrowed time, the clock ticks faster.” These are lyrics from MF DOOM, Madlib, and Madvillain track “Accordion.” Not only were these lines a fitting tribute to the rapper who based his appearance on Dr. Doom, they also fit the storyline of the new comic perfectly.
“Doom” is set in the not-too-distant future, and has Dr. Doom tasked with saving the entire Marvel Universe. With Valeria Richards at his side, Doom goes on a quest to harness more power than any human has ever wielded before to try to stop Galactus from bringing about the death of the universe.
MF DOOM
MF DOOM aka Daniel Dumile sadly and suddenly passed on October 31st, 2020. The cause was angioedema, a rare reaction to a blood pressure medication he had been recently prescribed. He is known for his intricate wordplay and eccentric onstage presence, almost always wearing a metal mask inspired by Dr. Doom.
