Horror, Inc. is building upon the long-established horror franchise “Friday the 13th” and its immortal slasher Jason Voorhees. The company has announced the launch of the Jason Universe. This multi-platform initiative spans games, immersive experiences, merchandise, and more.
“We’re focused on honoring the legacy while elevating the fan experience and appealing to today’s horror audiences as we develop new ways to watch, interact and engage with the Jason Universe,” Robbie Barsamian, VP of Horror, Inc. said.
“With the unique ability to remain at the forefront of pop culture for 44 years, Jason continues to top charts as one of the scariest villains of all time with strong global awareness across multiple generations thanks to billions of TikTok views plus millions and millions of gamers and movie fans,” says Sheri Conn, Global GM of Horror, Inc. “We can’t wait to introduce new Jason Universe activations to these amazing fans.”
Why Now?
Continuing to capitalize on a popular horror icon sounds like a no-brainer decision. However, it is surprising considering the decades-long legal battle between “Friday the 13th” writer Victor Miller and director/producer Sean S. Cunningham. Namely the pair are duking it out over who owns the rights to the iconic character.
In 2021, Miller reclaimed the domestic rights to the film and is partnering with Horror, Inc. to create the Jason Universe.
“For decades, Jason shocked and thrilled audiences who kept coming back for more,” Robert Barsamian, President of Horror, Inc., told IGN. “We’re excited to work with Victor Miller and Marc Toberoff on new projects we’ll announce in the coming months.”
Barsamian is also working as an executive producer on the upcoming A24 and Peacock expanded prequel series “Crystal Lake.” As well as executive producing 2017’s “Friday the 13th: The Game.”
We’ll keep you posted on updates about the Jason Universe as they become available. You can also sign up for updates here. All of the Friday The 13th” movies, sans “Jason X,” are streaming on Max.
