“Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” Gets 8-Minute Preview

The upcoming film “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes”’s marketing campaign is really heating up. In late April, humans dressed as apes were spotted riding horses on California’s Venice Beach as a publicity stunt. Now, 20th Century Fox has released an almost 8-minute extended preview of the new movie!

“Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” will take place 300 years after the death of Caesar in 2017’s “War for the Planet of the Apes.” The film will follow Noa (Owen Teague), a young ape, who will embark on a journey that will lead him to question everything he knows about the past.

    The Preview

The extended preview centers around Noa and two other apes taking eagle eggs out of nests. It’s insinuated that this society is built on a strong symbiotic relationship between apes and eagles. This co-dependency is so well established that the apes have rules about taking eggs to raise the birds themselves.

This doesn’t mean that the birds are on board with their young being hijacked, as we see when Noa attempts to grab an egg, only to be knocked off a cliff by a protective momma. Thankfully both the young ape and the egg survive the ordeal otherwise, it would be a very short film.

Then we see Proximus Caesar (Kevin Durand) descend upon the trio’s village. He almost kills Noa and enslaves the rest of the population before destroying pretty much everything. To free his family he befriends Raka (Peter Macon), an orangutan, who is sympathetic to his plight.

    Unlikely Alliances

Raka insists that they take in a young woman whom they name Nova (Freya Allan). She is special since unlike other humans she can still speak. The duo are shocked when she tells them that her real name is Mae.

Mae is also a target for Proximus Caesar because he believes she has information about human technology that can further his plans for conquest. But all she wants to do is to free her people. The group must work together to stand any chance of taking down Proximus Caesar

“Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” hits theaters on May 10th. You can watch the extended preview below:
