Michael Chiklis Shoots Down The Thing “Deadpool 3” Rumor

The internet rumor mill sure has been hard at work this week. Most of the buzz is centering around a photo that LOOKS LIKE Michael Chiklis (“The Shield“) on the set of the highly anticipated “Deadpool 3.” The blurry image reportedly shows the actor reprising his role as The Thing from the Fox-era “Fantastic Four” films. But…that isn’t the case.

Despite all of the frankly positive hype for Chiklis (“Winning Time“) returning, he has confirmed the image is fake. He will NOT be returning as the The Thing for “Deadpool 3.” While he didn’t reveal who WILL be playing the iconic Marvel Comics character, he did confirm he knows who it is, and “is a fan of his work.”

FYI folks… This is a FAKE. Sorry to disappoint. So many people have asked about it, I feel it’s necessary to clear this up. I do know who they’re casting though. Not my place to tell but I will say this. I’m a fan of his work and I wish him luck and success with it. pic.twitter.com/y9nYI8MFM7

[Editor’s note: Emmy winner Ebon Moss-Bachrach (“The Bear“) has been all-but-confirmed as Ben Grimm in the Matt Shakman-directed film. Likewise, Pedro Pascal sure seems like he’ll be playing Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic.]

Fans are obviously disappointed to hear that Chiklis won’t be returning. But most are grateful he addressed it directly. In an age of dubious leaks, addressing things directly really shuts rumors like this down. Further proving you can’t believe everything you see online, doubly so when it comes to comic book films.

“Deadpool 3” will hit theaters on July 26th. “Fantastic Four” currently has a May 2nd, 2025 release date. We’ll keep you posted on updates about the production as they become available.
