Ahead of today’s quarterly earnings call for Disney shareholders, CEO Bob Iger did what he does best, and announced some plans for the House of Mouse. While visiting CNBC, Iger dropped a pretty big piece of news.

Chief among these (that we weren’t expecting) was news of that animated “Moana” spinoff series on Disney+ getting changed to a sequel feature film. “Moana remains an incredibly popular franchise,” Iger said. “And we can’t wait to give you more of Moana and Maui when Moana 2 comes to theaters this November.”

Directed by Dave Derrick Jr. with music by Grammy® winners Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, Grammy nominee Opetaia Foa’i, and three-time Grammy winner Mark Mancina, “Moana 2” will open in theaters on November 27th, 2024.

[This is different than the live-action adaptation of the film which stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as Maui, which is supposed to release June 27th, 2025.]

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.
