Woody Woodpecker was first introduced to the world in 1940, his infamous laugh being provided by the late Mel Blanc. Over the years Mr. Woodpecker has been in several films and cartoons, with his latest movie being in 2017. The “Woody Woodpecker” film, while received poorly, was done in a hybrid live action, 3D animation style.
Streaming giant Netflix decided to give Woodpecker a sequel, continuing the same hybrid style. The first looks for “Woody Woodpecker Goes to Camp” were released with Netflix’s 2024 line up announcement. We did not see this one coming at all. Did anyone see this happening this year?
The official plot reads: “Woody Woodpecker must find a new home after being kicked out of the forest. At Camp Woo Hoo, he thinks he’s found a forever home, but there’s an inspector on the loose who wants to shut down the camp.” Woodpecker will be voiced by Eric Bauza, who voiced him in the 2017 film. Bauza also voices the character for the “Woody Woodpecker” show on YouTube.
The first looks at the film are really clean and polished. The animation studio, Universal 1440 Entertainment, clearly put a lot of effort to put the animation on par with other hybrid film. Has anyone else noticed that these 3D animation hybrid movies look really good lately? It could be me, but maybe directors are trying to avoid being bullied by the internet over animation designs.
“Woody Woodpecker Goes to Camp” is currently scheduled to begin streaming on Netflix on April 12th, 2024.
