Shortlist for “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” Star Surfaces

James Gunn and co head of DC Studios Peter Safran are launching an all new cinematic universe, which means some big casting decisions are happening. We already know who will be carrying on the honor of Krypton in the upcoming “Superman: Legacy” film, and some of the other characters we’ll be seeing.

But today’s news is about another member of that family.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow DC Studios, DC Comics

Milly Alcock, Emilia Jones, and Meg Donnelly have apparently been named to the shortlist for the part of Kara Zor-El, cousin of Kal-El, and carrier of the name….Supergirl. We do know the basics for the film, which is currently being called “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.” Inspired by Tom King‘s mini-series, expect to see the difference between Kara Zor El and Kal El in this live-action movie.

As DC Studios describes it: “Superman, who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl, raised on a rock, a chip off of Krypton, and who watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life and then come to Earth. She is much more hardcore and not the Supergirl we’re used to.”

Let’s look at each of these candidates, shall we?

    Milly Alcock

Chances are, you’ve seen Alcock as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in HBO’s “Game of Thrones” prequel series, “House of the Dragon.” While she does have several credits to her name, most of them have been for non-American audiences. Her breakthrough role as the young Targaryen Princess really showed her range.

    Emilia Jones

You’d probably recognize Jones from her multi award-winning role as Ruby Rossi in Apple TV+‘s fabulous Best Picture film, “CODA.” Fun bonus fact- Jones had a small role in “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.”

    Meg Donnelly

Probably the most familiar to American audiences of these actresses, Donnelly starred in the Disney Channel’s very popular film series “Zombies,” and is an accomplished singer. She also starred in The CW’s “Supernatural” prequel series “The Winchesters” as Mary Campbell, mother of Dean and Sam Winchester. Fun bonus fact- she’s actually ALREADY voiced Supergirl in the animated “Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Part One.”

There really aren’t any other details yet, but we’ll let you know what we hear about this and other news.

Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.
