Keanu Reeves Gave Francis Ford Coppola Mushrooms During “Dracula”

Francis Ford Coppola. If there were a Mount Rushmore of American directors, he’d certainly be on it. Just think about his filmography and the impact it STILL has on filmmakers, actors, and viewers alike. With that in mind, let us tell you a story about what happened during production on his seminal “Bram Stoker’s Dracula.”

Keanu Reeves, who as much as we love should NEVER AGAIN have an English accent in any project, co-stared in the film as Jonathan Harker, London solicitor and aid to the great Count Dracula (Gary Oldman). Talk about iconic costumes and characters!

Well, it turns out Reeves happened to have on his person some mushrooms. Not the most surprising thing in the world, honestly. What IS, however, is that he gave them to Coppola, who happened to be celebrating his brithday.

“So I gave Francis Ford Coppola once for his birthday some mushrooms. We were doing Dracula. I heard it was his birthday, and I happened to have an 8th of some mushrooms, so I gave them to him,” Reeves told Michael Rosenbaum on a recent appearance on the “Inside of You” podcast. Rosenbaum, who is just as shocked/amused as we are, asks “What happened?”

“He took them,” Reeves responds. “I don’t wanna- he had a very nice birthday. He said he enjoyed them.”

To have been on the set during that film *dreamy sigh.* Oh also- remember that thing where maybe Reeves and co-star Winona Ryder are actually married because the priest who performs the ceremony in the film WAS AN ACTUAL PRIEST, doing an ACTUAL ceremony, and that they’ve been technically married for 30 years?!)

You can watch the full episode (or listen to the podcast) of “Inside of You” now. (Also, if you don’t already have the anniversary “Dracula” 4K steelbook, it *is* on sale right now on Amazon.)
