“Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” Reveals New Big Bad

The “Ghostbusters” franchise has had some pretty iconic spectral villains to fight off. “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” will have a new big bad to bust. Hopefully this new evil will hold up to the likes of Gozer, Slimer, or the Kaiju-sized Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.

Jason Reitman‘s “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” brought back Gozer for Egon Spengler’s (Harold Ramis) daughter and grandkids to handle. “Forzen Empire” director Gil Kenan, who co-wrote “Afterlife,” is bringing new life (or death in this case) to the franchise mythos. Death Chill is a glowing-eyed horned figured looming in the mist, who causes a fatal frost to envelop New York in the middle of summer.

“Because the Spengler family story drove the narrative in ‘Afterlife,’ bringing Gozer back to center-stage was a natural way to close the book on the past,” Kenan explained to Empire. “But we are now in the post-Gozerian era of the ‘Ghostbusters‘ saga, so that means we’re able to stretch out and create an entirely new mythology. And that’s thrilling as a storyteller, because there are all-new and terrifying stakes with fresh visual references to draw on.”

While “Frozen Empire” is looking to add new elements, it is still keeping ties to the past. The original busters are back, joining the new cast from ‘Afterlife‘ to take on this new evil. The exclusive sneak peak shows Bill Murray and Paul Rudd chatting it up, possibly in THE firehouse. Perhaps one never truly retires from busting ghosts and saving the world.

“Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” stars Carrie Coon, Mckenna Grace, Annie Potts, Murray, Rudd, Ernie Hudson, Dan Aykroyd, Finn Wolfhard, and many more. It is currently expected to hit theaters March 29th, 2024. Check out the teaser trailer below:
