AI Sets the Stage in SciFi Thriller “Beacon 23” [Exclusive Clip]

“Beacon 23” has quietly hit streaming services like Prime Video, MGM+, and SlingTV. Based on the series of short stories by “Silo” author Hugh Howey, the slow-burn sci-fi psychological thriller hasn’t gotten the marketing push of other shows. But as the season 1 finale approaches this Sunday, word of mouth is building.

Set in the far future on a remote space outpost, Lena Headey (“Game of Thrones“) stars as Aster Calyx, who arrives at Beacon 23. The outpost is manned by the lone Halan Kai Nelson (Stephan James). As time passes and the mysteries surrounding the distant area of the universe begin to deepen, Aster and Halan have to determine their real missions, and if they are allies or foes.

The Beacons effectively serve as lighthouses, only now instead of ocean ships, they keep the way clear of dark matter for interstellar crafts on safe routes. AI exists in the series, which begins to comprise some of their own characters, including one named Bart (“Locke & Key” alum Wade Bogert-O’Brien,).

Courtesy of our friends over at MGM+, we have an exclusive clip of Bart’s explanation of the beginnings of the mystery as he speaks with Keir (played by “The Creator” and “Ozark’s” Marc Menchaca).

The series actually shot all of seasons one and two back to back, so this is one of those rare times that we already know that any answers not wrapped up by the end of the final episode of this season should be on their way before too long.

“Beacon 23” season one finale hits Sunday, December 10th.
