Few Disney franchises have the multi-generational adoration like “Toy Story” does. It set the tone for what Pixar films could deliver, and remains a touchstone of animation and voice performance for many. Arguably part of that magic comes from stars Tom Hanks and Tim Allen as the duo of Woody and Buzz.
With 4 films in the “Toy Story” universe already, why would a 5th one make sense? Especially after the ending of the most recent one. It neatly wrapped things up, so we’re not really convinced another entry would be a good idea.
But Tim Allen, who has another starring role in a franchise currently on Disney+, says he’s been approached about returning. This comes as a surprise, as last time we heard anything about his involvement, he absolutely wasn’t.

“Bob Iger, head of Disney, said it was on,” Allen said. “He actually said it was going to happen. They have reached out to Tom and I to reprise the roles. They’re not saying anything about it. For people like me, it’s just like — I’m a sci-fi buff. You wonder if four was too many, is five too much? According to the scuttlebutts, the writer that’s doing it wrote one of the better ones and he said, ‘If I didn’t get this right, I wouldn’t do it.’ So it could be a very, very interesting way to reunite it.”
What do you think? Would YOU want a 5th “Toy Story” film? Especially after the disappointing reception of Buzz’s solo spinoff with Chris Evans, “Lightyear.” [Which we really liked!]
We’ll let you know what we hear about this and other news.
