“Gears Of War” Creator Wants Zack Snyder to Direct Movie

Studios have been champing at the bit to adapt the wildly popular “Gear of War” video game series into a movie. In November 2022, Netflix threw its hat into the ring, announcing both a live-action film and an adult animated series.

During a recent interview, “Gears of War” creator Cliff Bleszinski was asked about how he felt about “Justice League” helmer Zack Snyder directing. While Bleszinski admitted to not being a fan of Snyder’s Netflix original film “Army of the Dead,” he point out that Snyder excels as a director when working with pre-existing IPs.

“To be frank, I think Zack Snyder is an amazing director when he is working with existing IP,” Bleszinski said. “I think when he did, I think it was the Dawn of the Dead remake, some of his superhero movies, when he did 300. As an adaptation, 300 defined a whole genre of [filmmaking], the slow-mo and the fast pans. But his fans are rabid as hell and the thing is, I think he’d be a great fit for it.”

Snyder has been focusing on developing his original properties like “Army of The Dead” and the “Rebel Moon” universe. Back in August of 2022, Snyder did say he was interested in directing either a “Halo” or “Gears of War” adaptation. The fact that he already expressed interest in working with the “Gears of War” IP certainly isn’t a bad sign. This has also led to a bit of fantasy casting by fans.

Former WWE wrestler and star of “Army of The Dead” Dave Bautista has been extremely vocal about wanting to play Marcus in “Gears of War.” A choice that Bleszinski also fully endorses. Bautista has also openly praised Snyder as a director, clearly showing he’d be willing to work with him again.

So, of course, these bits of information have some fans hopeful for a Snyder-directed “Gears of War” film starring Bautista. Which isn’t out of the realm of possibility since “Army of The Dead” also established a working relationship between the filmmaker and Netflix, along with his upcoming “Rebel Moon.”

Only time will tell if Snyderverse fans get their wish. We’ll keep you posted on updates about the “Gears of War” adaptations as they become available.

Snyder’s “Rebel Moon” is set to hit Netflix December 22nd, 2023.
