Daniel Radcliffe has a documentary on the way, about David Holmes, his long-time “Harry Potter” stunt double who was paralyzed. Holmes stood in for Radcliffe, but was unfortunately paralyzed on the set of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1.”
Holmes worked as Radcliffe’s stunt double from 2001’s “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” up to 2010’s “Deathly Hallows: Part 1.” He was described as a “prodigious teenage gymnast from Essex, England.” Sadly, Holmes would break his neck on the “Deathly Hallows: Part 1” set, becoming paralyzed from the chest down. The documentary is directed by Dan Hartley, telling his story with behind-the-scenes footage from Holmes’ stunt career. Radcliffe is featured in the documentary and serves as an executive producer.
HBO officially describes “David Holmes: The Boy Who Lived” as an “inextricable bond” between Holmes and Radcliffe. A bond that hasn’t faded in the years following the end of “Harry Potter” film franchise. Holmes and Radcliffe formed a podcast in 2020, “Cunning Stunts.” The two shed light on the realities and dangers of stunt work.
Radcliffe was last on screen as Weird Al Yankovic in the biopic, “Weird: The Al Yankovic Story.” It is admirable that Radcliffe chose to produce this documentary. This spotlight on Holmes’ time as a stunt double and his life after the incident is content we wan to see.
“David Holmes: The Boy Who Lived” will be premiering on HBO and streaming on MAX on November 15th, 2023.
