Genre writer/director Kiah Roache-Turner (“Wyrmwood: Apocalypse”) is working on a new, shark-centric, thriller “Beast of War.” The movie will be hitting the American Film Market (AFM) courtesy of the UK-based sales firm Cornerstone. The company previously teamed up with Roache-Turner on the spider horror film “Sting.”

Set in 1942, “Beast of War” follows a warship carrying hundreds of Australian soldiers across the Timor Sea to the frontline of WWII. Suddenly, Japanese fighter jets come down, and within minutes the ocean becomes a hell of steel, fire, oil, and blood. With the ship destroyed, a handful of survivors build a makeshift raft from debris as they cling to life. Tensions run high between the hot-headed and terrified young men, as they band together to survive. But their biggest battle is yet to come. In the dark below, a great white shark hunts in the wreckage and is drawn to the smell of fresh blood in the water.
This survival action thriller is produced by Bronte Pictures’ Blake Northfield and Pictures in Paradise’s Chris Brown. “Beast of War” will begin production in 2024 in Australia and Malta. CreatureNFX’s director Paul Trefry, will create the practical creature effects from his studio in Australia. Trefry has previously worked with directors like James Cameron, Ridley Scott, and Baz Luhrmann.
“We loved working with Kiah on Sting,” said Cornerstone’s Alison Thompson.
“He’s a kinetic filmmaker with a deep respect for the genre and we know he will deliver a distinctive and adrenaline-fueled shark movie,” added Cornerstone Films Co-President Mark Gooder.
We’ll keep you posted on updates about “Beast of War” as they become available.
