Toy Hall of Fame Offers Fan Vote for Frequent Runner-Ups

Remember the Island of Misfit Toys from the Rudolph Christmas special? That land where the toys nobody wanted wound up? Well who would’ve thought that things like Transformers, a pogo stick, an My Little Pony could wind up in the Hall of Fame equivalent of that? Well every year since 1998, a select number of toys have been nominated and selected for induction into the National Toy Hall of Fame in Rochester, NY. Not every toy makes the cut though and a few of them, including the ones mentioned above, keep missing out on entry. But now, you can change the fate for one of them!

My Little Pony: A New Generation – (L-R) SUNNY (voiced by Vanessa Hudgens), HITCH (voiced by James Marsden), IZZY (voiced by Kimiko Glenn), ZIPP (voiced by Liza Koshy) and PIPP (voiced by Sofia Carson). Cr: © 2021 Hasbro, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

This year, the National Toy Hall of Fame is throwing a bone to one of five toys that are always a bridesmaid, never a bride. Those toys include Transformers, My Little Pony, the pogo stick, the Fisher-Price Corn Popper, and the PEZ Dispenser. Being that this is the 25th anniversary for the National Toy Hall of Fame, the organization will be ringing it in with a fan vote to bring in one of these toys alongside three others that will be picked the usual way, by a committee of toy historians and cultural experts.

People will be allowed to cast one vote per day until October 24th via the website for the National Toy Hall of Fame. So if you really like pogo sticks and have felt slighted over the years, now is your chance to right that wrong. Or maybe you adore that corn popper thing. You know, the push toy that makes little balls pop up and jump around in a little plastic bubble? We’ll put a picture here so you know what the hell we’re talking about.

That thing. Did you even know that had a name? If that thing gets voted in over Transformers, then the democratic process is truly broken on even the most fundamental of levels. Now a PEZ dispenser, yeah they’re great and iconic, but a toy? They’re more like, a sugar delivery device. It’s like nominating a DVD case for movie of the year just because it had a copy of “Titanic” in it. And the pogo stick? Please. It’s a hazardous form of transportation at best. Basically this race comes down between My Little Pony and Transformers.

The National Toy Hall of Fame will announce the winners on November 9th. Until then, vote early, vote often, and don’t vote for the corn popper. For the love of Optimus Prime, don’t vote for the corn popper. You can vote on their website here.
