Ah yes. Deadpool, the Merc with a mouth. It would seem that the only thing that could keep Wade Wilson’s mouth shut was a poor script and executive meddling in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.” Turns out there’s at least one more thing that can get Deadpool to stop talking; a strike. When SAG-AFTRA voted to go on strike following the WGA, a number of productions screeched to a holt, including the upcoming “Deadpool 3.” According to director Shawn Levy, this may result in the film not hitting it’s intended release date.

“Avatar,” “Star Wars” and the Marvel Cinematic Universe all got a schedule shift back in June of 2023. At that time, “Deadpool 3″ was surprisingly an inversion of that, moving from November 8th of 2024 ahead several months to May 3rd. About a month after that announcement, the SAG-AFTRA strike happened and as of the time of this writing is still ongoing. Levy has no idea if they’ll meet that release date.
About half the movie has been filmed and edited. Levy says everyone involved is dying to get back to work on it, but that’s obviously not going to happen while the strike is ongoing. Certainly the frustration is palpable on many fronts; studios want their movies made and actors want fair pay and benefits.

“Deadpool 3″ has been hotly anticipated, especially after the confirmation we’d be seeing Ryan Reynolds reprising his role as Wade Wilson alongside Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. There was some trepidation about the content of the film’s humor and style given this is the first “Deadpool” since Disney took ownership of Fox’s Marvel assets. Those fears were later put to rest though as the third installment in the series will continue the tradition of being brazenly inappropriate in what will hopefully be the best possible ways.
It’s likely we’ll hear about a release day if the SAG-AFTRA strike continues. Then again, depending on when the resolution happens, it may still be too late to hit that May 3rd release. Time and negotiations will tell. If we hear anything more, we’ll update you.
