Burbank, California has officially declared September 24th “Tim Burton Day,” to celebrate the iconic filmmaker. Burton will be returning to his hometown to accept the honor, as well as attend the 15th annual Awards Gala of the Burbank International Film Festival (BIFF). Which will be hosted at the Burbank Marriott Convention Center this year.

Last year the BIFF gave the first-ever “Tim Burton Visionary Award” to director Alessandro Gentile for his film “Lodo.” The honor is for directors who grew up in or are currently living in Burbank who show unique visions and styles. Because no one has ever accused Burton of having no style.

“As a Burbank native myself I am pleased to be part of this year’s festival, with this new Visionary Award going to a local Burbank filmmaker who shows unique imagination and creativity,” said the Emmy-nominated Burton.

With all the mutual love between Burton and the event BIFF President Kurt Patino and BIFF Advisory Board Member Tony Muscio thought it was time to honor him in a different way. “Tim Burton’s artistry is such an inspiration, and the team at BIFF is thrilled to have collaborated with the Burbank City Council to give Tim this deserving recognition, “Tim Burton Day,” and celebrate his amazing contributions to the entertainment industry, his Burbank roots and the wonderful impressions he’s made in the hearts of audiences,” Patino explained.

To celebrate this year’s BIFF Awards Gala will also have a career retrospective for the influencial writer/driector.

You can see the BIFF’s full schedule here and tickets are still available. Even if you can’t make the journey, this non-profit is accepting donations to fund its mission of advocating for inclusive and culturally diverse perspectives and content in film

We’ll keep you posted on updates about Time Burton Day as well as the BIFF as they become available.
