After debuting at Florida‘s Popcorn Frights on August 11th, we have a clip from “Big Easy Queens.” The queer horror comedy is definitely a “B” movie, but an enjoyable one if B movies are your thing. It’s “pure queer horror,” complete with drag queens, voodoo, zombies, musical numbers, glitter, and campy gore.
The steamy underworld of New Orleans will never be the same.
Mob Queen of the Quarter, Minnie Bouvèé (Eric Swanson), has ordered the brutal massacre of her competition’s, Poodles Makenzie (Jennifer McClain), crew. As she awaits the fallout, a masked figure begins following her, leaving bouquets of gardenias and threatening messages. Minnie must figure out if this is the revenge of Poodles, or the work of her estranged sister Mimi (Benjamin Shaevitz). Mimi stole Minnie’s man years ago, but is suddenly back in her life as trouble gets worse.
The clip includes a soft musical ballad performed by Jackson Truve (Matthew Darren), while serenading Minnie. The two have a happy, loving life together, but that all changes after Jackson meets Minnie’s sister Mimi. The two run away together leaving behind a seemingly pregnant Minnie, who is shortly seen in a hospital. The level of drama in this clip definitely had me reaching for the popcorn and wanting to see more.
“Big Easy Queens” was written by Robert Leleux and directed by Erynn Dalton. The official trailer shows so much, yet keeps majority of the film shrouded in mystery. It reminds one of a modern era “Rocky Horror Picture Show” with the level of queer camp and over the top comedy horror shown.
