After many years, “Monopoly” is finally going to be a movie. It will be the first project from Lionsgate, following their purchase of Hasbro’s Entertainment One (eOne) for $500 million earlier this month. While we’re not really sure why someone thinks “Monopoly” would be a good film idea, it’s happening.
Over the years, several entities have talked about making this film. Big names like Kevin Hart and even Ridley Scott have been in talks about this project. Yet somehow, nothing ever helped this potential film get off the ground. One can only imagine the ideas being kicked around for this movie.

Monopoly has been a staple of family game nights (and family game fights) for decades. The game has several different versions available to play, even a cheater version. Recently Hasbro partnered with several pop culture films and shows. A “Stranger Things” version was released last year, though people mainly remember the version for containing spoilers.
The popular 1935 board game is the first of many projects to come from Lionsgate’s acquisition of eOne. Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks is pleased with the deal and feels Lionsgate will be a good home for this particular title.

At this time there are absolutely no details about this film, other than it is finally in the works. Perhaps executives at Lionsgate saw the billion dollar success of “Barbie” and how it’s impacted Mattel. Maybe they want to get on that gravy train.
We’ll let you know what we hear about this and other news.
