OUTRAGEOUS. It’s finally happening! After many years and ongoing rumors, it appears fans of the capped leader of Cloud City on Bespin is getting his much-deserved spinoff. We’re speaking of course of the one and only Lando Calrissian. He’s a sabacc sharp, smuggler, droid-lover, foe, friend, and General, and we’re so excited to see this project finally taking a big step forward.

Lando was originally brought to life on screen in “Star Wars: Episode V- The Empire Strikes Back” by the great Billy Dee Williams. In spinoff / prequel film “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” Donald Glover took on the role. Glover, along with his brother Stephen Glover, will write this new series. We’re not sure how this will play nice with their current overall deal at Amazon.

Most recently, “Haunted Mansion” director Justin Simien was on deck for Lando, but that’s no longer the case.

Donald Glover has been very vocal about wanting to return to the character since the 2018 “Solo” film released. “I would love to play Lando again. It’s a fun time, being him,” Glover told GQ. “It just has to be the right way to do it. I’m not interested in doing anything that’s going to be a waste of my time or just a paycheck. It just has to be the right thing, and I think it could be.”

Likewise, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy has been hopeful for the right Lando project to come along.

With the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes still in effect, it may be awhile before anything else with this project hits hyperdrive. We’ll let you know what we hear about this and other news.

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.
