ABC’s new spin-off of their hit reality dating show “The Bachelor” is taking an interesting direction with “The Golden Bachelor.” The star of this spin-off is 71-year-old retired restauranter, Gerry Turner. ABC introduced Turner in a cheeky promo and appearance on “Good Morning America.”

ABC also released several photos, a poster, and their full bio on Turner. The bio mentions that Turner lives in his dream home, a lake house in Indiana. It also mentions several of Turner’s hobbies like barbequing, playing pickleball, and cheering on his favorite Chicago sports teams. Turner is referenced as a doting father and grandfather, who is moving on 6 years after his wife passed away in 2017.
Turner says his daughters encouraged him to try out for the new series and believes his late wife approves of his decision to find happiness. ABC has not yet confirmed any information about the contestants, but assures that they will “have a lifetime of experience.”

Many fans of “The Bachelor” have been waiting for information about the spin-off to be released for three years. ABC finally confirmed in May of this year that this new series will be airing this fall. ABC began soliciting applications for the spin-off during episodes of “The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette” in 2020. Turner is hoping to find a “high-energy” partner who will enjoy pickleball and golf.
Personally I feel that ABC keeping information about the contestants close to the vest is a little concerning. Any age gap is going to immediately come off as creepy, though I get the feeling jokes are going to be made at this series’ expense no matter what.
“The Golden Bachelor” will air this fall on ABC.
