The longer he’s in movies, the longer we can’t help but love Nicolas Cage. His quirkiness and acting style have persisted in a way that’s fascinating and somehow captivating. You never know where he’s going to take a role. And that’s definitely the fun of him. Well, we’re about to see how he fares as a retired assassin, doing one last job to save his estranged daughter and granddaughter. “The Retirement Plan” looks to be a massively fun romp of “Nicholas Cage gets to kill everyone.”

If “Taken” and “The Hitman’s Bodyguard” had a baby, this would be it. Looking nice and rough around the edges, Cage’s character Matt just wants to live a quiet life. He wants do-nothing days and Hawaiian shirts while living in the Cayman Islands. That life gets interrupted when his granddaughter Sarah (Thalia Campbell) comes to him for help, worried that her mom, Ashley (Ashley Green) Matt’s daughter, has gotten herself in trouble. And what trouble! Ashley’s gotten herself involved with crime boss Donnie (Jackie Earle Haley), who’s sent henchman Bobo (Ron Perlman) to take care of her.

This calls Matt to action, taking down every single one of Donnie’s cronies to protect his family. Revealing to Ashley the secret life of an assassin that Matt kept from her all these years. No doubt an action-packed romp that will have some sentimental pockets here and there. We love a good Cage film, and this looks to be one of his more entertaining movies. When Cage is on, it’s a gas.

“The Retirement Plan” is getting a limited release on August 25th, 2023. Check out the trailer now:
