Aside from playing “Dune” main character Paul Atreides, Timothée Chalamet is tackling another classic literary character this year. He’ll be donning the signature top hat and purple coat of none other than famed chocolatier, Willy Wonka.

Starring Chalamet in the title role, this irresistibly vivid and inventive big screen spectacle will introduce audiences to a young Willy Wonka, chock-full of ideas and determined to change the world one delectable bite at a time—proving that the best things in life begin with a dream, and if you’re lucky enough to meet Willy Wonka, anything is possible.

Joining him are Calah Lane (“The Day Shall Come”), Keegan-Michael Key (“The Prom,” “Schmigadoon”), Paterson Joseph (“Vigil,” “Noughts + Crosses”), Matt Lucas (“British Bake Off”), Mathew Baynton, Sally Hawkins, Rowan Atkinson, Jim Carter (“Downton Abbey”), Olivia Colman, and Hugh Grant.

Natasha Rothwell (“White Lotus,” “Insecure”), Rich Fulcher (“Marriage Story,” “Disenchantment”), Rakhee Thakrar (“Sex Education”), Tom Davis (“Paddington 2,” “King Gary”), and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith (“Mary Poppins Returns”) also star.
Paul King directs from a script he co-wrote with Simon Farnaby, based on a story by King, and the classic tale by Roald Dahl.
Warner Bros. Pictures released the first official trailer for the film, which is due in theaters December 15th:
