Emmy nominated actress/singer Mandy Moore (“This is Us”) and actor/comedian Kumail Nanjiani (“Welcome to Chippendales”) will star in the new horror movie “Thread: An Insidious Tale.” From Screen Gems, Blumhouse, and James Wan’s Atomic Monster, this will be the 6th installment of the “Insidious” universe.

The “Insidious” franchise is known for having storylines about everyday people facing various demonic entities. But “Thread: An Insidious Tale” will be an offshoot of the series instead of a straight-up sequel. It will tell the story of a married couple (Moore and Nanjiani) who lose their young daughter. Grief-stricken and desperate, they use a spell to travel back in time to prevent the tragedy. Of course, like all stories about time travel, the consequences turn out to be far more than they bargained for.

“Thread: An Insidious Tale” is written and directed by Jeremy Slater (“Moon Knight”). It is also not to confused with the upcoming “Insidious: The Red Door.” “Red Door” will be a continuation of the story of Lambert family, ten years after the events of the last “Insidious” film. That movie will revolve around Josh Lambert heading east to drop off his son, Dalton, at college. However, Dalton’s academic dream soon becomes a nightmare, when the repressed demons of his past return to haunt them both.

“Insidious: The Red Door,” directed by franchise star Patrick Wilson will hit theaters on July 7th of this year. You can check out the official trailer for that below.

Currently, there is no set release date for  “Thread: An Insidious Tale.” But we’ll keep you posted on updates about this and other projects within the universe. In the meantime, you can catch Moore on the latest season of Peacock’s anthology series “Dr. Death.”  Nanjiani can be seen on Hulu’s comedy series “Welcome to Chippendales” as well as the upcoming sequel to “Ghostbusters.”
