Bryan Fuller Teases Tom Savini’s Return for “Crystal Lake” Series

Bryan Fuller has a surprise for horror fans. We know the writer is working on the upcoming “Crystal Lake” series, which has many horror fans already buzzing with excitement. He’s also teasing bringing in a very familiar face to handle the special effects. None other than Tom Savini himself. Savini is a legend in the special effects world, and a veteran of the “Friday the 13th” movies. Tom Savini’s career has included “Dawn of the Dead,” “Creepshow,” and “Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2” to name a few.

The horror scene has been ripe with remakes and revivals lately. “Halloween,” “Scream,” even “Candyman” have experienced rehashes for the modern day. All except one franchise and its iconic, unkillable slasher: “Friday the 13th.” For a while, the IP for “Friday the 13th” had been wrapped up in a custody battle. Sean S. Cunningham, director of the original films, and writer Victor Miller have been fighting over the rights to the franchise for years. But with that battle finally finished, Jason Voorhees can finally be reborn, as is customary with the hockey-masked embodiment of revenge. After 14 years, it’s about time.

It would make sense for one of SFX greats to return to work on one of the IPs that made him famous. But we’ll have to wait to officially know more. However, we won’t yet get to Jason in “Crystal Lake.” The series is a prequel, potentially filling out the life of Jason’s mother, Pamela. Fuller has full access to the entirety of the franchise. Which means we’ll more than likely see the 8 foot machete-wielding slasher return to the silver screen.
