Rashida Jones (“Parks and Recreation”) has joined Kate McKinnon (“Barbie“) in the new sci-fi drama “In the Blink of An Eye.” The film will be directed by Andrew Stanton, who is best known for animated features like “WALL-E” and “Finding Nemo.” Though he has done live-action before with 2012’s “John Carter,” and episodes of “Better Call Saul,” “Stranger Things,” and “For All Mankind.” So, he is already no stranger to sci-fi dystopias, though this one will probably be less adorable than “WALL-E.”

The film follows three intersecting storylines, spanning thousands of years. “In the Blink of An Eye” aims to explore and reflect on hope, connection, and the circle of life. You know, light-hearted and breezy subjects. While there doesn’t seem to be any confirmation about McKinnon’s character. We do know Jones will play an anthropology professor who is taking care of her dying mother.

“In the Blink of An Eye” is written by Colby Day (“Spaceman”) and focuses on three intersecting storylines. Stanley Kubrick’s “2001: A Space Odyssey,” Christopher Nolan’s “Interstellar,” and Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Magnolia” have all been mentioned as touchstones for the film. Day will also be acting as an executive producer.

Jared Ian Goldman (“Russian Doll”) is producing. Senior vice president of production Taylor Friedman and creative executive Apolline Berty are overseeing for Searchlight Pictures. With  Katie Goodson-Thomas and DanTram Nguyen acting as heads of production and development.

Production for “In the Blink of An Eye” will begin next week in Vancouver, Canada. We’ll keep you updated about this project as details become available.
