Prime Video has unveiled the official trailer for its upcoming big-budget spy thriller, “Citadel.” The Russo Brothers Anthony and Joe, known for their multiple Marvel Studios films, serve as executive producers for the series. David Weil (“Hunters“) will serve as show-runner. Richard Madden (“Bodyguard,” “Game of Thrones“) and Priyanka Chopra Jonas (“Quantico“) star. The trailer for “Citadel” was scheduled to release earlier this month, but was delayed following a train crash in Greece. The creators wanted to be sensitive to the fact the trailer features an action-packed sequence on a luxury train.

The producers envision the show as a potential franchise starter. A global adventure that brings together spies from various countries for the ultimate mission. The Hollywood Reporter has previously noted that “Citadel’s” budget ballooned to over $200 million for its seven episodes. Owing the cost to overruns and creative differences. This led to a round of expensive re-shoots and the replacement of writers Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec.

“Citadel” follows the Russo Brothers’ spy thriller “The Gray Man,” which cost $250 million, and became Netflix’s most expensive movie yet. Although “The Gray Man” is the streamer’s fourth most-watched movie in its history, its budget still became dwarfed by “Citadel’s.”

    “Citadel” Official Show Description

    The show’s official description reads:

“Eight years ago, Citadel fell. The independent global spy agency – tasked to uphold the safety and security of all people – was destroyed by operatives of Manticore, a powerful syndicate manipulating the world from the shadows. With Citadel’s fall, elite agents Mason Kane (Madden) and Nadia Sinh (Jonas) had their memories wiped as they narrowly escaped with their lives. They’ve remained hidden ever since, building new lives under new identities, unaware of their pasts. Until one night, when Mason is tracked down by his former Citadel colleague, Bernard Orlick (Stanley Tucci), who desperately needs his help to prevent Manticore from establishing a new world order. Mason seeks out his former partner, Nadia, and the two spies embark on a mission that takes them around the world in an effort to stop Manticore, all while contending with a relationship built on secrets, lies, and a dangerous-yet-undying love.”

The series premieres April 28th on Prime Video, with two episodes dropping the same day, followed by a new episode every Friday.
