Breakout star of Peacock’s “Bel-Air” Jabari Banks is making waves in the entertainment industry. The 23-year-old West Philadelphia native landed his first major role as the lead in the dramatic modern re-imagining of “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.” The show has been well-received by fans and critics alike for a remake that is far removed from the original.

As he continues to make a name for himself, Banks recently expressed his interest in joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His sites are set on playing one of the world’s most popular superheroes, Spider-Man.

At the NAACP Image Awards, Banks was asked which Marvel Studios hero he would play if given the chance. Without hesitation, he answered, “I think I want to be Spider-Man. Spider-Man. That’s my favorite superhero, yeah.” The interviewer points out we haven’t seen Miles Morales’ Spider-Man come into live action yet.

The possibility of Banks joining the MCU isn’t super far-fetched. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige previously confirmed a 4th Spider-Man film is in the works. Events in Phase 4 of the MCU have opened the multiverse, making room for more versions of Spidey to appear. Fans have been waiting for the introduction of Miles Morales, another incarnation of Spider-Man, in the live-action films.

Banks’ interest in playing Spider-Man showcases his enthusiasm for portraying iconic characters. As a rising star, he has the potential to make a significant impact in the entertainment industry and break barriers for actors of color. The MCU has a track record of casting talented actors who bring their own unique perspective to their roles, and Banks could be the next to join the ranks of Marvel Studios’ heroes.

While there is no confirmation of his casting, the possibility of him joining the MCU is exciting for fans and could lead to more opportunities for more minority actors in the industry. Banks’ star is on the rise, and it will be interesting to see where his career takes him in the future.

“Bel-Air” season 2 premiered February 23rd, 2023 exclusively on Peacock.
