Mysterious ‘Iron Balloon’ Washes Up on Japanese Beach

Japan is no stranger to things like Kaiju or even the odd mysterious object. Typically though those have some kind of press around them. Things like the Godzilla Christmas tree decoration or the giant real-life Gundam pretty well known. At least in our corner of the internet. This discovery though had many people in Japan and in the far reaches of the online world scratching their heads.

While walking near the Enshu Kaigan beach in Hamamatsu, a woman came across a large iron balloon that had been washed up on the beach. Many people online jumped to the conclusion that it was some kind of alien vehicle like the ones seen in “Dragon Ball Z.” Others thought that maybe it was some kind of wrecking ball. Or even a celestial egg. But after investigating the object that was part way stuck in the sand, they discovered that it was hollow. So what the heck was it?

“Mysterious iron ball on the beach? It was found that a metal sphere with a diameter of about 5 meters was launched on the coast of Enshuhama in Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture,” Japanese news and media company NHK said. “According to the police investigation, there is no danger of explosion, but it is not known in detail what kind of thing it is.”

While people were obsessing about the object, the investigation revealed that the orb was hollow. A hollow nearly 5 meters long orb mysteriously washes up on a beach, what on Earth or beyond could it be? To the naked eye, it looked a bit like a prop planet.

Further investigation revealed the iron balloon to just be a steel buoy. Typically, the modern metal buoys used by the military are painted redm so it was harder to discern what this one was. That of course didn’t stop the entertainment for people on Twitter.
