    Newly-Turned 18-Year-Old Wins $48M Jackpot on Birthday

Talk about the best birthday ever. At the recommendation of her grandfather, Juliette Lamour purchased a lottery ticket in celebration of her 18th birthday. Her first and likely last lotto purchase, as the Canadian teen managed to win the $48 million jackpot right off the bat. Some of us are excited enough to get gift cards on our birthdays. But Lamour is essentially set for life.

Fate seemed to line up in all the right ways for Lamour. Unsure of what to get for her first ticket, her father recommended the LOTTI 6-49 Quick Pick. In one fell swoop, she won the Gold Ball jackpot. Lamour found out at work, driving her co-worker to his knees when she scanned her ticket and her phone played the victory jingle, signifying her as the winner.

While there have been other 18-year-olds that have won the jackpot, none have won the amount Lamour has. But this plucky youngster has a good head on her shoulders. She already has plans for what to do with the money. Investing most of it is her plan, as her father’s a financial advisor. But that doesn’t mean she won’t use some of it for fun.

“While there have been other 18-year-old lottery winners across Canada in recent years, no one has won as much as Juliette,” the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation said.

Lamour intends to travel with her family before continuing her schooling to become a medical practitioner. “Once my school is done, my family and I will pick a continent and start exploring,” she said. Being able to travel that extensively is something most of us can only fantasize about. So we hope Juliette has a fantastic life going forward. Especially given that the money isn’t the end-all, be-all to her.
