Apple TV+ has released a trailer for season 2 of its epic sci-fi series, “Foundation.” Loosely based on Isaac Asimov‘s book series of the same name, both tell the story of a group of renegades who challenge the the Galactic Empire. The rebels attempt to prevent the destruction of humanity from the ruling class.
Season 1 centers around psychohistorian Hari Seldon (Jared Harris) who has discovered a formula that predicts the end of the Galactic Empire, led by the three Brothers; Brother Dawn (Cassian Bilton), Brother Day (Lee Pace), and Brother Dusk (Terrance Mann). When the empire falls, so too will society. His primary objective becomes the preservation of knowledge to ensure humanity can thrive in the future. This leads to him building the Foundation, a group of rebels that defy the Galactic Empire when they refuse to heed his warnings. This story is told over the course of hundreds of years with several groups fighting to control the destiny of humankind.
The first look at season 2 shows us it will probably focus on the sacrifices the Foundation has to make; leaving their home and lives to try to save humanity. But their mission does not end with the fall of the Galactic Empire, since they still have the peaky little task of totally rebuilding society. The teaser also indicates this season will focus on religion as a means of control, with rulers now using the word of the divine to keep power over those struggling after the fall.
We also get to see some new additions to the cast including Isabella Laughland as Brother Constant, a cleric trying to evangelize for the Church of the Galactic Spirit across the Outer Reach. Kulvinder Ghir will play Poly Verisof, a cynical alcoholic High Cleric of the Church of the Galactic Spirit. Sandra Yi Sencindiver, Ella-Rae Smith, Dimitri Leonidas, Ben Daniels, Holt McCallany, Mikael Persbrandt, Rachel House, and Nimrat Kaur will also be joining the cast for season 2.
Season 2 of “Foundation” will hit in the summer of 2023. Season 1 is currently available to stream, exclusively on Apple TV+. check out the season 2 trailer below:
