The latest PlayStation State of Play update hit the internet on September 13, after Sony had kept the show under wraps until a couple of days before its release. Gamers from around the world tuned into the broadcast and were left tingling with excitement as Sony treated them to fresh video content of the platform’s most eagerly anticipated titles, in addition to unveiling some details on a brand new, in-development game.
For many, the highlight of the State of Play update was fresh God of War Ragnarok content. Santa Monica Studios treated fans of the franchise to some in-game footage, in addition to some excellent cutscenes rendered in 4K definition. The new God of War game is highly anticipated and widely expected to win the coveted Game of the Year awards, according to the biggest and best Vegas betting sites.
New God of War Ragnarok Content
God of War Ragnarok is the sequel to the 2018 hit God of War, taking place 13 years after the previous game. Kratos’ son, Atreus, is now a thriving teenager, and he and Kratos traverse the nine realms hoping to find a week to prevent Ragnarok from occurring. Ragnarok is, of course, a series of events in Old Norse mythology that includes a great battle and, ultimately, the death of a number of significant figures, including the gods Freyr, Heimdallr, Loki, Odin, and Thor.
Fans of the franchise can order a God of War-themed DualSense controller, which looks pretty special. It comes in an icy white and cool blue two-tone design, complete with a bear and wolf insignia embellished on the touchpad. The game and the limited edition controllers become available on November 9, 2022.
The Tekken Franchise Comes to the Latest Generation

Beat ‘Em Up fans whooped with joy when Sony showed a trailer depicting footage from the work-in-progress title, Tekken 8. The original Tekken launched in December 1994, making it one of the longest-running fighting game titles. Starting life in arcades around the world, Tekken and its sequels have featured on all PlayStation consoles from the original PlayStation to PlayStation 4. Now it is time for the latest generation to enjoy Tekken.
Bandai Namco’s Katsuhiro Harada said during the video clip that the footage shown was not a pre-rendered movie but actual 60fps action from the game. Even those players who are not fans of fighting games were in awe at how amazing the game looks despite it still being in development. The completed game could well be one of the best-looking fight titles of all time. Unfortunately for Tekken lovers, there is currently no official release date, with rumors it may not hit our screens until 2024.
Team Ninja Announced Rise of Ronin
We already knew that the developer that brought us the much-loved Dead or Alive franchise, Team Ninja, was releasing a new title in 2023, but they dropped another bombshell by revealing Rise of Ronin is scheduled for a 2024 release, and it is a PlayStation 5 exclusive.
Rise of Ronin sees players take control of a ronin in an open world set in the 19th century. Already, gamers are stating Rise of Ronin looks like a combination of the Assassins Creed and Ghost of Tsushima titles, with an emphasis on exploring and brutal combat. That is a superb combination in our book!
Sony also lifted the curtain on several other titles and new features. These included the unveiling of Like a Dragon: Ishin!, from the developers of the popular Yakuza franchise, a PlayStation-exclusive quest for the upcoming Harry Potter Hogwarts Legacy title, a new PSVR2 Star Wars game, and fresh details about the PlayStation Stars loyalty scheme. Exciting times are ahead for gamers on the PlayStation platform.
