Parrot’s Scottish Accent is Both Rude and Adorable

While parrots are known to be capable mimics, we don’t often see how well these animals pick up accents. Especially on film and television shows, where they usually either say basic phrases or sound like the late Gilbert Gottfried. There is an untapped well of comedy from parrots that have specific accents. Especially accents that come with slang and phrasing that is already hilarious to begin with.

Take the Scottish accent, which to Americans, has a rhythm and cadence that can sound almost musical. Some Scottish accents can also have a way of being comically vulgar, though. Give those qualities to a parrot, and the results are magical. Example- an African Grey parrot named Onion has been making the rounds on YouTube.

There’s something just unbearably cute about the casual way that the parrot goes about its day while also being a menace. In some clips he is just eating or hanging out and just blurts out “cheeky b***ard.” He’s still a bird, so while saying offbeat things, he also just rips peoples glasses for no reason. What’s more, the parrot also lives with other animals, including a ferret, which adds to the charm of the situation. Since his owner also has an accent, the whole thing sounds like a Scottish sitcom.

If you are as in love with this rude bird as we are, go check out Cody Stoddart on TikTok and Instagram. He continues to post new videos of whatever random things Onion gets up to. Maybe just be careful about playing some of these videos in public.
