Extreme heat during summer can be fatal to your pet’s health. Dogs are more likely to suffer heat strokes in the summer. This occurs when they can’t remove the excess heat generated from their bodies.

You need to ensure your pets have a relaxed environment during extreme heat. Installing a misting system for pets helps safeguard your beloved animal’s health. It provides a safe and calm environment where animals can survive comfortably.

This article highlights cost-effective ways to build misting systems for pets. Let’s dive in!

How to Reduce the Cost of Building a misting system

    1. Source for Affordable Materials at Pets Supply Online Stores

The cost of misting systems can vary greatly. Misting systems can cost as low as five dollars or as high as hundreds of dollars, depending on various circumstances.

But, you can check various offers on pets supplies online and go for what’s within your budget. You can easily compare and settle for the best and most affordable misting system. Also, browse the associated accessories that guarantee maximum comfort to your pets.

Not only will you get your orders fast, but you can enjoy free or substantial shipping discounts. You’ll be saving money as you take care of your beloved pets.

You can purchase misting system materials that are both effective and affordable. You can consider checking out the warranty of the materials, convenience of use, operating manner, among other things, before buying.

    1. Go for Misting System with Filtration Features

Hard water can cause an extra cost to your misting system. If your taps run hard water, you’ll experience frequent clogging issues. Consider using a misting system with a three-chamber filtration system to avoid the hard water issue.

This filter helps eliminate the hard water’s magnesium, calcium, and other microscopic particles. These particles are responsible for clogging or damaging your misting system.

Tap waters are highly contaminated, and you should not skip the filter for any misting system. Leverage a misting system with a filter when building to avoid additional costs.

    1. Make it a DIY Project to Save on Installation Costs

A Do it Yourself (DIY) is a cost-effective way to build a misting system for your pets. Apart from keeping your pets cool during the hot summer days, it is simple and easy to construct.

You can take advantage of the outdoor misting system since it guarantees to keep your pets relaxed. A DIY misting projects prevent animals, especially dogs, from panting as a way of cooling their bodies.

    1. Opt for a Well Ventilated Pet Houses

In addition to your pet misting system to regulate temperatures, you can choose well-ventilated pet houses.

Opting for a well-ventilated pet house is an effective way to cut costs for your misting system. Ensure you open the air vents if closed to help reduce the number of times the mist nozzles turn on.

If your pet house doesn’t have air vents, it is ideal for drilling holes on top of the walls or installing a few closable vents. Closable vents are highly preferred because of the winter season.

Moreover, if the house is portable, you can always turn it to face the prevailing winds. This is ideal as the door or windows will catch a breeze when it blows.

This is cost-effective as your pet misting system will use a small amount of water. You can easily turn off the misting system when the wind is blowing cool air towards the house.

How to Build a Misting System

After looking at the cost-effective ways to build a pet misting system. Here are 3 essential steps you can follow to DIY your own.

Step 1: Connecting the Water Source

A simple and easy-to-supply water for your misting nozzles is by using the ½ inch diameter tubing for drip irrigation. First, you’ll need two items to connect the tube to a water faucet.

    • Attach a drip irrigation filter to the water faucet with a 200 size mesh. (This is essential as it prevents the misting nozzles from getting clogged with magnesium and calcium particles, among other things).
    • On the other end of the filter, ensure you fix a ½ inch drip tubing to the adapter.

This helps the drip tubing adapter to have an open un-threaded end. On one end of the plastic tubing, push it into the drip tubing adapter. Ensure you slowly wriggle it back and forth to allow it to slide in about an inch.

This process is necessary (compression fitting) as the tight fit creates a seal that prevents leakages.

    Step 2: Install Supply Tubing

Connect the water faucets to the end where you wish to make mist using the flexible plastic tubing. You can use the “elbow” and “T” compression fittings to channel the tubing where you want it.

Leverage the tubing pegs or stakes after every few feet to fit tightly to the ground. Moreover, cable ties are ideal when securing it to tree limbs, while metal frames on the canopy tents.

When fixing it to pergolas, walls, decks, or other structures, ½ inch nail straps will come in handy. You should use the figure-eight end clamps to close off the tubing’s open ends.

If you’re looking to achieve finer mist, ensure the tubing is shorter and has higher water pressure.

Step 3: Choose the Right Misting Nozzles

You will find a variety of misting nozzles on the market. Here are a few suggestions for cost-effective nozzles you can choose from:

    • Naturally, plastic nozzles are way more affordable compared to brass nozzles. However, the brass nozzles last longer.
    • Purchase misting nozzles designed for low-pressure misting systems. The medium and high-pressure systems will need an expensive pump.
    • You can go for a smaller nozzle diameter. This produces finer mist which easily evaporates into the air instead of condensing and dropping to the ground. This nozzle is ideal if you want the mist but don’t want everything to become wet (especially the pets’ beddings).
    • Purchase a built-in anti-drip nozzle to prevent annoying leakages from the nozzles when turned off.

Step 4: Install the Misting Nozzles

This is a straightforward step. After every two to three feet, punch holes using the drip tubing punch tool. Ensure these holes are where you want the mist.

Then push the nozzles into the holes until you hear a faint snap. But you can use a screw to fix them if you’re using threaded nozzles. After this process, you can turn on the water to your pet’s misting system to its maximum volume.

    Final Takeaway

It can be challenging to keep your pets cool and comfortable during the summer. However, with a pet misting system in place, you can be sure of keeping them relaxed.

Building a pet’s misting system is reliable and cost-effective. You can decide to buy the cutest pest supplies online for construction purposes.
