This is the kind of news we love seeing on a Thursday, gotta say. Ron Perlman is still eager to make a third “Hellboy” film with director Guillermo del Toro.
“Am I eager to do Hellboy 3? No, I’m 71 fucking years old,” Perlman told The Independent. “[But] we owe this to the fans, and we should give it to them because it would be an epic conclusion. So Guillermo, if you’re reading, I’m not done pounding you to get this fucking thing done.”
There has been back and forth on this subject for years. Perlman played Big Red for GDT twice, the last time in 2008. So it’s been awhile. We’ve had one “Hellboy” film without Perlman and del Toro, which was met with…mixed reception.
Starring David Harbour (“Stranger Things,” “Black Widow“), the 2019 film idea was great on paper. A reboot, telling a different Mike Mignola tale, why wouldn’t it be good? Mila Jovovich, Ian McShane, Daniel Dae Kim? Heck yes. Neil Marshall said everything we wanted to hear from a director of a film like this. But you know what? It just didn’t sate the craving.
So, is it likely we’ll get a “Hellboy 3” with our top picks returning? Probably not, but it’s nice to know Perlman has our best interest at heart.
You can see Ron Perlman and Guillermo del Toro’s most recent collaboration, “Nightmare Alley,” in select theaters now.
