Darwin’s Arch in the Galapagos Islands has collapsed into the ocean. According to an eyewitness report, the arch fell on Monday May 17th at around 11:20 a.m. local time.
The spot was a popular place for divers and researchers. Scientists believe the arch may have been part of the remains from magma and lava flows. They think that the arch had been what was left over from the island called Darwin which is a now extinct volcano.
The arch collapsed naturally after many centuries of the ocean wearing it away. Divers have now nicknamed it the “Pillars of Evolution” since now only two plateaus remain.
