We are very pleased to share the news that the second “Downton Abbey” film will have a very special release date. Announced this morning by Focus Features, the flick is already a week into filming, and is eyeing a Christmas 2021 premiere.
Series stars Hugh Bonneville, Michelle Dockery, Maggie Smith, and Matthew Goode, are returning, as well as more of the original series’ cast. New names this time include Hugh Dancy, Laura Haddock, Nathalie Baye and Dominic West.
Julian Fellowes, who created the popular series, penned the screenplay for “Downton Abbey 2.” Simon Curtis (“My Week with Marilyn”) is directing. .
“After a very challenging year with so many of us separated from family and friends, it is a huge comfort to think that better times are ahead and that next Christmas we will be re-united with the much beloved characters of ‘Downton Abbey,'” Producer Gareth Neame said of the news.
Focus Features chairman Peter Kujawski said “There’s no place like home for the holidays, and we can’t imagine a better gift than getting to reunite with Julian, Gareth, and the entire Downton family in 2021 to bring the Crawley’s back home for their fans.”
