Donald Trump Vows to Start New Social Media Platform

According to one of Donald Trump‘s senior advisers, the former reality tv star will be back on social media very soon. In fact, Trump plans on running his own social media platform and has set a time frame of 2-3 months.

Jason Miller, senior adviser to Donald Trump, told Fox News:

“I do think that we’re going to see President Trump returning to social media in probably about two or three months here, with his own platform. And this is something that I think will be the hottest ticket in social media, it’s going to completely redefine the game, and everybody is going to be waiting and watching to see what exactly President Trump does.”

Back in January, Twitter and Facebook banned Trump for inciting violence with his tweets and posts. The Capital complex in Washington, DC was invaded after he sent out numerous tweets calling the election unfair. He also had multiple tweets deleted for spreading false information about voting and Covid-19. Twitter wasn’t the only platform that cancelled his account and use of the platform. He had his account permanently banned on Twitch and Snapchat while other platforms disabled them only temporarily.

    Will this actually happen?

    Maybe.

The largest cloud providers are unlikely to host Trump’s platform. Amazon, Microsoft, and Google are all cloud providers that declined to host Parler after a lot of Trump supporters gathered there to organize. And then there’s the fact that payment processors like Stripe and Shopify have taken down anything Trump related and shut down online stores affiliated with him.

There is a possibility that foreign service providers could have interest in supporting him with this new venture.

It’s also unclear on how he would moderate posts if at all. Section 230 that was put in place by Trump protects website operators from lawsuits for the posts, videos and photos that others share on their services and content moderation. Odds are that he would want to keep it a free speech platform.
