Bizarre Accidents: Train Saved By Whale Tail Sculpture

2020 has been filled with some bizarre things happening. But never did I think that a sculpture of whale tails would become the unsung hero.

On November 2nd in the Netherlands, around 12:30 a.m. local time, a subway train overshot its stop in a station. It broke through the barriers and went careening off the track. Luckily a giant statue was there to catch it which is a miracle if you ask me.

The driver of the Metro train was the only one on board and is safe and sound. The tail prevented the train from falling into water which would have been an issue because the water makes it impossible to get a crane to it.

This bizarre accident happened 10 minutes from where I live: Subway train saved from falling over 10 meters (34 feet) into water by tail of a whale sculpture ?! pic.twitter.com/gzknspq9bX

And to top it off? The name of the statue is “Saved by the Whale’s Tail.”
