Yes, a new “Space Jam” film is still happening. Yesterday LeBron James shared the first look at his Toon Squad jersey, as well as revealing the title of the sequel.
“Space Jam: A New Legacy” was directed by Malcolm D. Lee (“Night School“), who replaced the project’s original helmer Terence Nance, who left the project (along with cinematographer Bradford Young).
“Black Panther” director Ryan Coogler co-wrote the script with Sev Ohanian. The pair also produced the film for Warner Bros. Pictures. Kris Bowers and Hans Zimmer composed the score, which we’re assuming will have that original “Space Jam” track featured in James’ tweet.
The film will also star Don Cheadle, Sonequa Martin-Green, Eric Bauza, and Kath Soucie, along with NBA players like Klay Thompson, Anthony Davis, Chris Paul, Damian Lillard, Kyle Kuzma, and obviously LeBron James. Diana Taurasi and Nneka Ogwumike of the WNBA are also on cast.
“Space Jam: A New Legacy” is currently scheduled to open on July 16th, 2021
