Studio Ghibli Shows Off First Images From “Aya And The Witch”

“Aya and the Witch” is a far cry from what we’re used to when watching Studio Ghibli films, but the images that Studio Ghibli released still seem to hold the general feel of the movies in the expressions of the characters. Check them out below!

The story Aya and the Witch is based off of the novel “Earwig and the Witch” by Diana Wine. You may remember the name Diana Wine as the person who wrote another one of Studio Ghibli’s famous films “Castle in the Sky”. Goro and Hayao Miyazaki are working on this as a joint project.  Goro Miyazaki is credited with directing while Hayao is credited with planning the initial project.

The film will air on NHK Television in December instead of a theatrical release. The project is a collaboration between Studio Ghibli, NHK and NEP( NHK Enterprises) which could explain why it will be going straight to television. It could also be that they want to people to stay safe during the current pandemic.

The artwork for the film is so different because this is their first movie using 3D3G. It looks to me a little like some of the cartoons on Netflix such as Thomas Astruc‘s “Miraculous Ladybug.” And if that’s the case you can bet that it looks great. Plus it’s Studio Ghibli and they’ve never let the fans down as far as quality goes. I’m just hoping that we get an English Dub simultaneously released with the film in Japan.
