Take A Virtual Tour of the Castle That Influenced Dracula

The website Dread Central has been trying to help horror nerds stuck at home by offering tours of some of the spookiest places in the world. These tours offer a wealth of information and also a way to explore these spaces all from the relative comfort of home. Their latest piece has been on Bran Castle in Romania which has been popularly associated as being an inspiration for Castle Dracula in Bram Stoker’s legendary novel. While the castle itself has little to do with Dracula or his inspiration Vlad the Impaler, its construction and look feels like a place where you would find vampires.

You can check out the tour for yourself here.

Using google maps, you can wander through the halls of the castle which has been adorned with clothing and art that you would have seen during it’s peak. The castle itself is almost 800 years old and served as a fortress to protect the region from the Ottomans in central Europe. With the research provided in both text and an audio presentation, you get a really interesting look at what makes this place so spooky even after it has been restored for tourists. This winding hallways and long history makes it easy to see what gave it a reputation as a place of horrific power.

Dread Central has done several other places in their tours if Bran Castle isn’t your speed. Other tours have included the Winchester Mystery House and The legendary Paris catacombs. If you’re bored and looking for something scary to distract you from the horrors outside, you owe it to yourself to check out these tours.
