Detective Pikachu hits theaters this week and Pokemon GO plans to celebrate. Niantic and The Pokemon Company are bringing a special event to Pokemon GO which includes new cosmetic items and in-game bonuses. The event will promote and celebrate the live-action Pokemon movie’s release on May 10.

The Detective Pikachu celebration goes from May 7th at 4 p.m. EDT to May 17th at 4 p.m EDT. During this event, players will see Pokemon featured in the Detective Pikachu movie in raids and the wild. This includes Pokemon such as Snorlax, Psyduck, Snubbull, Aipom, Jigglypuff, and Bulbasaur. Additionally, shiny Aipom, who is pink instead of the standard purple, will be available in the game for the first time.

    Shiny Aipom definitely stands out

Players will also get a chance to catch their very own Pikachu wearing a detective hat. Players can discover this limited-edition Pikachu by utilizing the game’s GO Snapshot AR Camera. Simply access the camera, take a bunch of photos as you play, and look for a Pikachu to photobomb one. Once you have discovered a Pikachu, it will appear in the game and you will have an opportunity to capture it. Then you will have your very own lightning mouse detective!

All players will earn double experience points throughout the event, making this a great opportunity to climb levels. Specially themed research tasks will be available and will lead to more opportunities to capture Pokemon from the movie. Special avatar items will be available in the digital shop for purchase. These include a T-shirt with the Detective Pikachu logo and a detective cap with Pikachu ears.

The new gear available to players

So whether you intend to see the movie or not, Pokemon GO players will definitely want to jump in and join in the festivities. Who knows, maybe Niantic will even make the region-exclusive Mr. Mime available in raids since he appears in the film. You won’t know unless you check it all out. So get out there and sleuth out your rare Pikachu!
