If you have ever wanted to make a Doom level based on your own house now is the time to do it. Programmer and Designer Rich Whitehouse has put out a full tutorial on how to create this “Doomba” and create maps as well as artwork for the game.
Doom is proving to be one of the most versatile and hackable games out there. I started with downloading wads because they came out with a Sailor Moon Doom Mod.
By using Noesis, a program for interpreting data for imaging and modeling purposes you can utilize your Roomba as a plug in. That is how you get to things like this image here provided by the tutorial.
You can also create images in the game. Whitehouse tells us, “As a bonus, there’s an “Image to NoeRoomba” tool that’s only enabled when you set ENABLE_TEST_FUNCTIONS to True in tool_roomba.py. This allows you to generate .noeroomba files from plain image files.” So you can make things like this..
“I hope you get some fun out of this feature. I definitely have! Some will say that it’s pointless, but I have faith in my heart that the Dark Lord will wipe these people from the face of the earth and trap them in a dimension of eternal hellfire. Their suffering will be legendary,” Whitehouse says in the tutorial. Now I need to get a Roomba of my own so I can try out the tutorial, which doesn’t look easy but it is doable!
So what do you think? Will you be running the Doomba script anytime soon? Tell us in the comments!
